Operations grows software engineering pathway to center school understudies

Owensboro High School, with the assistance of an award from Amazon Future Engineer, will grow its software engineering pathway to incorporate an educational plan for center school understudies. Amazon Future Engineer is a public program that dispatched in 2018 with the objective of giving STEM programming to understudies explicitly in underserved and low-pay networks. OHS got an award to begin the software engineering pathway from Amazon Future Engineer in the 2019-20 school year.

The program has had a great deal of achievement in the 18 months it has been in activity at the school, said OHS school and profession preparation mentor Monica Rice, notwithstanding study hall and instructive disturbances because of computer science and engineering. Indeed, she said, this program has not floundered at all since it was initially instructed on the web.

The Amazon Future Engineer programming considers understudies to take an introduction to software engineering and AP software engineering standards, with the last contribution school credit, Rice said. Rice said the expectation is for understudies to take initial software engineering courses at the center school level so that when they arrive at secondary school, they are now accustomed to the coursework, and ideally build up a more profound arrangement.
